FAQ’s

What is Icynene spray foam insulation?

Icynene spray foam insulation is a revolutionary product that has a number of applications such as loft space insulation. When applied it is in a foam form but quickly expands up to 100 times before setting hard, resulting in an effective insulation layer for heat, noise and pollution.

How is Icynene spray foam insulation installed?

EFI use only the best and fully trained workers to install your Icynene foam spray insulation. They spray the solution directly onto stud walls, ceilings, floors and even over electrical and plumbing fittings. In the case of renovation projects, the Icynene is injected into spaces through small drilled holes.

What are the advantages of using Icynene spray foam insulation?

Icynene spray foam insulation is an open-cell spray that provides air-sealing benefits. Other closed-cell insulation options don’t deliver this, which can be a problem because buildings expand and contract with temperature changes, moisture levels and even wind pressure. The flexibility Icynene spray foam insulation has means that it can expand and contract with your building yet still retain its air sealing properties.

What is Icynene spray foam insulation made from?

Icynene spray foam does not use environmentally harmful blowing agents such as HFCs, HCFCs or HFAs, but instead is 100% water-blown. Icynene itself is made up of organic chemical compounds including petroleum extract.

Is Icynene water absorbent?

No. However water vapour molecules can pass through the spray foam insulation allowing the moisture within the masonry or timber of a building to escape as the building dries out.

Does Icynene encourage fungal or bacterial growth?

There have been several tests concerning mould growth and Icynene spray foam insulation. Results have shown that Icynene does not support bacteria or fungi and in fact other insulation alternatives such as fiberglass are less effective at inhibiting fungal and bacterial growth. This is because it does not retain water and creates an environment, which fungi and bacteria do not like.

How does Icynene spray foam insulation protect my building from pests?

The reason why pests enter you home is either for food, shelter or both. Icynene spray foam insulation is neither a source of food or nesting material for pests.

Will Icynene spray foam insulation change over the years?

Icynene spray foam insulation is chemically inert and once installed and set will remain both chemically and physically the same.

Is Icynene spray foam insulation environmentally friendly?

In terms of environmental impact, Icynene is the preferred choice for spray foam insulation and will help to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gasses. When sprayed it won’t emit any harmful emissions either, although it is recommended that during this process there should be adequate ventilation.

Are PBDEs used as a flame retardant?

Icynene does not contain any poly-brominated diphenyl ethers.

Will Icynene spray foam insulation overheat electricals?

Rigorous testing has showed that installing Icynene spray foam insulation around electrical fittings is completely safe. The same is also true for plumbing.

Will Icynene corrode metal?

Extensive testing has show that Icynene spray foam insulation is non-corrosive, so any metal fixtures and fittings will be safe. Also, because Icynene does not change over time, this statement will remain true for the life of the product.
